Stay with us at Sugar Mountain

A perfect getaway for cabin camping.

Enjoy 220 private acres when you stay in our rustic but cozy log cabin. The woods and fields that surround you are all working farmland, so you’ll be immersed in various aspects of agriculture in Massachusetts while also enjoying the beauty of our natural wildlife corridor.

Sugar Mountain has two bedrooms, one with a full-size bed and one with two sets of twin bunkbeds, plus a loft with a full-size futon. The main living space is just right for playing cards in the evening and the deck is the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny morning. Lights in each room are powered by a small solar array, so the cabin is totally off-grid!

Sugar Mountain is next door to Lilac Hedge Farm, which offers a farm store, a variety of friendly animals for visiting, and an outdoor farm bar and kitchen with live music open on the weekends.

$120 per night Monday through Thursday nights

See “How many people can stay at Sugar Mountain” for more info

And because you’re renting direct from us, there are no additional fees!

  • Up to 6 people can stay in Sugar Mountain for our regular nightly price. For an extra cost per person ($15/person weekends, $12/person weekday), up to 2 additional people can stay in the cabin. If you have a larger group, contact us to discuss tent camping.

  • The calendar above (or to the left on a computer) shows when Sugar Mountain has already been reserved. Any dates that are not greyed out, or do not show a Reserved event, are available! And you can always contact us by clicking Learn More or Book Your Stay if you have any questions.

  • The street address is 216 Wachusett Street in Rutland. The cabin itself is a short walk from the parking area between farm buildings and just into the woods.

The property is all part of Sap Castle’s farm, although it has a different street address than our sugarhouse.

  • You have private and exclusive access to our 220 acres of woods and fields, including a dirt road through the woods that is excellent for walking or mountain biking.

Sugar Mountain abuts Lilac Hedge Farm but it is a separate property. Sugar Mountain guests are welcome to walk around the Lilac Hedge property just like any other customers during operating hours.

  • Since this is cabin camping, not much! We’ve got beds with mattresses, a table and chairs, basic cleaning and safety supplies, non-potable water, and a deck of cards.

There is also a propane grill available for use and a fire pit (with wood provided).

Beyond that, guests must bring what they’ll need, including linens, dishes, etc. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lighting like flashlights, headlamps, or battery-powered lanterns.

  • At this time we are not allowing pets at Sugar Mountain.

  • When you book, we’ll send details about parking, access, and how to get into the cabin via the keypad. Unless you need us, we won’t be around - we live on the other side of the property.

  • In our woods, sugaring main lines stay up all year (plus trees will be tapped if you stay with us in spring). A wide variety of animals live at Lilac Hedge and there are activities like hay rides in the fall. Be mindful of tubing, working tractors, and the occasional escaped emu (it’s happened before!).

  • Beyond our woods, there are lots of outdoor activities only minutes away - like Mount Wachusett, Mass. Audubon’s Wachusett Meadow, and fishing at the Quinapoxet River, Stillwater River, Ware River, and Wachusett Reservoir - plus a variety of area restaurants and Worcester less than half an hour away.

And of course we’re right next door to Lilac Hedge Farm, which offers a farm store, a variety of friendly animals for visiting, and an outdoor farm bar and kitchen with live music open on the weekends. Check out their facebook and instagram to see what’s happening each weekend.
